I am building a cnc router. I have loaded Ubuntu 5.10 and EMC2 onto my system. Now I need to configure it for the right pinout. I am using a CandCNC mini-io breakout board and it is configured to match the xylotex pinout.

This is clearly a newbie type question, but where do I find the actual file stepper_inch.ini that I need to modify to include xylotex_pinout.hal instead of standard_pinout.hal. If it is the one that is in the folder "etc/emc2/sample-configs/stepper" that is definitely counter-intuitive. I was looking for something like "etc/emc2/configs/stepper" but no joy in Muddville.

Thanks in advance for the help,
Alan

SAMCO's reply to TENMETALMAN pointed me to the right place in the wiki to find most of the answers to my question.

I created the "~/emc2" and "~/emc2/configs" folders in my home area, dragged the "stepper" folder into it, and editted stepper_inch.ini to use xylotex_piniout.hal.

However, when I start emc2 it still brings up the configuration screen. What else do I need to do?

I don't know what you mean by configuration screen. - emc2 normally starts with a config pick list. Your newly coppied config should now show up so that you can choose it.

btw I think you also need the common directory coppied to the emc2/configs folder from the sample configs.

Sam,

The config pick list is what I was talking about.

I just copied the common folder from sample-configs to my ~/emc2/configs folder.

I hooked up one stepper and emc2 spins it. Now I need to actually hook up my controller to my router and see where that gets me.
