after extensive reasearch, i have decided to go with the acme leadscrew and my own design phosphor bronze anti-backlash nut on my cnc lathe (to cut cast iron and steel) until the new wife and bub become a less burden on my wallet (then i'll go with precision ball screws). These will be exact copies of the ballscrew shaft and nut to make the conversion to ballscrews an ease.

Does anyone have any pro's or con's on this idea?

It is sound thinking. The ball screw will be a direct replacement part. Take care of your family, because a divorce will put you in the threaded rod section!;)

Don't mention the anti-backlash nut! (Fawlty Towers), it looks like this week everybody is inventing their own, these things should be spread, I have an OD.
