When you say "graphics" what exactly do you mean? Animated gifs? Video editing/compression from digital camcorder? Photoshop work on images? Or are you going serious, like Maya?

how many computers have you built? Have you ever overclocked a computer? If not, you'll be happy to know that the system you're putting together will likely run at 3.0 GHz without a problem, maybe 3.2 GHz if you're lucky with stock cooling, and likely 3.5 GHz or faster with a good cooling solution (like the watercooler in my avatar :))

My other comments: You may be better off to build a dual processor machine, especially if your 'graphics' program(s) can take advantage of it. You won't find a smoother running machine than a dually. Take a look at the MSI K7D Master-L with a couple of low-speed TBred B processors (like the 1700+) If your program is SMP capable, that system will be cheaper than the P4 system and have tons more processing power.

Also, I would always recommend buying quality, name-brand motherboards. My favorite brands are Abit and Asus, although there are plenty of other good brands.

finally, there's 2 websites I'd like to recommend.
1. www.newegg.com - hands down the best place to buy parts.
2. www.overclockers.com - be sure to check out their forums at forum.oc-forums.com . there's TONS of info there.

Hope it helps!

Yes Flash Macro so on"

how many computers have you built? "50 PC and Servers "
Have you ever overclocked a computer? "YES"

well, it looks like you're all set, wallcrawler. That ought to be a good, solid system for you. :)

I'm kinda getting tired of my old Athlon 1600+ running at 2.0 GHz, so I'm seriously thinking about upgrading to a nice dually with TBred Bs clocked to about 2.3 GHz each. (Watercooled, of course :D) That ought to last me another year or so, at least until there's some good software written for 64 bit processors.

If you do overclock that 2.8C, let me know how it does. I've heard they're screamers.

looks nice.

the only thing i'd add is that the thermaltake case can be hard to install stuff in. so unless you like the look i would probably suggest a antec case, they are really nice as far as installing harddrives, etc.

edit: didnt realize you had already bought it. let me know what you think about the case

This is what’s installed so far the OS XP PRO and all updates plus drivers plus antivirus.

Now I have to load Office 2003 PRO.
All files I backed up.
Tweak.
Install my graphics programs update all that, games install restore all back ups and updates.
I say about another 8 hrs of loading stuff.

Then test test test.

well this is my favorite computer now... it is not all that great, but I did the case modification and haven't finished. Moved the drive bays to eject out the front so I don't have to reach around it at the desk.

The fan is a zalman. I had a lot of trouble keeping this processor cool for some reason.

Hyper Threading Technology
I must say this has been a great feature for my system.
Gaming, HTML and graphics have been so much faster and makes it so much easier to do, Because of the HT.
It is a must if you are going to build you own system.

Nice machine have you set up Wallcrawler.
Its just that it looks a lot more like a lan party rig instead of a graphics/CAD workstation.

Why did you went with ATI intstead of nVidia? ATI right now does better on DirectX but nVidia wins on OpenGL and profecional graphic cards and drivers. You dont have to buy super expensive profeccional card, there is this dude nick "Uniwinder" who programmed this utility to softmod a GeForce into a Quadro class card, but I guess you know this already, so why ATI then ?

Do you oc dthe P4 ?
Hyper threading is great, I think about switching to a P4 2.8 myself for my next upgrade, though the HT does not work flawlessly with everything and I have read many posts about turning HT off.

Here is what I make for fun with an 866-P3 with Micrografx Photo publisher 4
The story is the last 2 days of the biggest Battleship ever built

http://www.warshipmodels.com/~SteveNuttall/April6th.jpg
The Yamato and Yahagi are steaming for Okinawa; the time is 1610hrs; just over 1 hour has passed since she left her base in Tokuyama Bay; fully armed and with her fuel tanks filled to 90%; the aircraft handling crews are busy preparing her aircraft to leave the ship before night falls; as the rest of the crew is anticipating the coming Battle

http://www.specwarnet.net/shipworks/Yamato%20sinking%2014-15.jpg

It is April 7th, 1945 at approx. 2:15 PM. It is a cloudy and drizzly day on the Pacific Ocean. After almost 3 hours of relentless attacks by US Navy Aircraft the giant Battleship; Yamato, lists 90 degrees to port; The order to abandon ship has been given; Fires rage; now out of control and gaining in intensity as they are fueled by the powder charges falling out of their racks into the fire as the behemoth lists ever further

All efforts at counter-flooding have failed; suddenly a few stragglers from the 3rd attacking group appear out of the clouds

They are low on fuel and ammo but cannot resist making a final pass over the doomed Battleship; they commence their final attack run; the aircrews do not realize that their fate has been sealed; in five seconds; they will enter Dante's Inferno.

http://www.specwarnet.net/shipworks/Yamato%20sinking%2014-15-05.jpg

April 7th, 1945,. 2:15.05 PM. Yamato now lists over 90 degrees. The rampage of fires burning around the 6” turret housing have ignited all the charges in the B turret magazine and the ship begins to explode

The resulting cloud from the blast rises 3000 feet in the air and can be seen at a distance of 100 miles; everything within 1/8 of a mile is destroyed

The aircraft that decided to make a final run will be destroyed by the blast, along with their crews, by flying debris from the explosion. At 2:23 pm, the Mighty Battleship slips under the waves, taking with her almost 3000 men. A sad end to a great ship

This was the end of the Imperial Japanese Navy.

ATI I have used of late, I was a Geforce Ninvida person for a longtime but got burnt from their service.
I do play some real instance Sims games and the ATI has proved to be the best bang for the buck.

Graphics with this card is Sharpe and clear.

Plus I got the card for cost and could not pass it up.
The system is been very reliable and fast.
I have seen system with most of the parts I usd that has not been as fast and reliable. HTT is ansome and has made my life allot easier with the rendering of graphics.

You do indeed have a nice box I will say.

In your orig. post you mentioned graphics. I do not know much about Pavre or 3-D Studio Max but I can comment on using Photoshop with your box. I started out doing alot of photoshop work on my machine, also having a ATI vid card. I soon found that when making multiple layer images in photoshop, I began to hate the fact that I had all these miminized layers all over my screen that I was working with. To get rid of this peve of mine, I opted to change out my card and go with a Oxygen card that supports dual monitors. This way I could drag layers I needed but not currently editing over to the second monitor to get them out of the way until I needed them and I would drag them back.

Just a thought.
