Hi All ,

am new to laser technology and i have this question .

am building a 3 axis router and am planning to buy a laser tube and install it to my router ....i looked in synrad web site and i found very nice tubes there .

my question is :

what is the maximum thickness that laser can cut in metals ?

i don't need an accurate answer , am just looking for an answer in tolearnce , that's because when i looked at synrad i found that the maximum one there can just cut 2 mm thickness in stainless , is it true ?

waiting for your response.

It depends on the type of laser, and the wattage.

The most difficult part of a laser on a home made cnc is the focus of the light. Without the cnc or router, try buying a laser tube and getting it to focus on a piece of metal. Now move the metal or the laser a little and notice the difference.

I assume your going to have a moving table rather than moving the laser tube?

at synrad company they told that i have to cover the laser tube with any mtalic cover to prevent any accidental reflication
