View Full Version : What do you guys use for acceleration settings in Mach 3 with the CNC kit from IH

I've been having issues getting the engine frequency, acceleration, and velocity set to the point where I can get repeatable movement. I'm running the demo version of Mach 3 demo version (25,000 Hz) on an 850 MHz P3 with the CNC kit from IH. I've managed to get it mainly working but while doing set-up for a bearing block I realized the holes I was milling weren't round they were more oval. I have since tried setting one drive and basing all other settings off of it (same ballscrews and encoders I should have done this sooner), but I will have it dialed in perfectly for one movement and then it will be off if I try and test it again.

Anyone know what might be going wrong?
James

Edit: If anyone has the proper numbers for steps on the encoders the ball screw threads and well while I'm at it the proper pulley diameters. With that I can calculate what the numbers should be and compare them to the auto set numbers).

Well I sat down and solved my own problems. Next week I will post my numbers in case anyone needs help getting started.

Has anyone had issues with the spindle getting rather toasty (hot enough you don't want to hold your hand on for too long)?

Don't overdue the spindal lock. If you tighten the spindal lock with the spindal turning at 2k you can hear when you have it too tight, mine is noticeably noisier when too tight and gets a lot hotter. Also of course oil the spindal. I have run cnc programs 2+ hours in length cutting wood molds with no coolant, it gets pretty warm but no alarmingly so. Flood coolant works wonders.
