I am new to CNC machines and am trying to determine what type of machine would be necessary to cover some of the work I am interested in doing. I would like to be able to manipulate wood, MDF, Delrin, and various metals with the same machine. I do not know if this is possible. Some examples of the work I would like to be able to do would include milling on gun bodies, building MDF subwoofer enclosures/Amp racks, and to be able to buy Delrin in bulk and cut it into shaped blocks of about 6"x4". Versatility is key to what I'm looking for. As far as price, I really don't know what to expect to have to pay, but if I could find a used unit without paying over $3,000.00 or so that would be great.

What size machine would be necessary for these types of projects? What features or design elements should I be looking for? Any other advice that anyone can provide is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The first thing you need to decide is what is going to be your work envelop size also you will need a machine with programmable spindle

What exactly do you mean by "work envelop size"? And by programmable spindle are you referring to spindle RPM?

work envelop size reefers to the size work you what to do if you are going to do parts that are 15"x15"x 6" you would not buy a machine that would only cut 10"x10"x3" and yes on spindle if you are cutting wood you will have an rpm of say 10,000 but for alum. You would only need 2,000 rpm I hope this helps
