Hi I am considering building a metal lathe from scratch (Gingery style) & am wondering what sort of resolution (smallest increment of movement in the axes) is the norm. Particularly, I want to know what size leadscews I should use - I will just be using cheapo threaded rod I think. I figure use a fairly wide nut to engage many threads & it should be strong enough & average out minor discrepancies in the accuracy. Haven't decided whether to stay small like Gingery or try a fullscale job. any suggestions? warnings? advice? etc.
