ViperTX 03-16-2006, 10:38 PM platinum is pretty soft....why don't you experiment..... citra 03-17-2006, 08:04 AM well, they are too expensive for me to 'experiment'. I've tried the settings for gold but it give me very rough finish and such. I was just wondering if anyone here have any experience working with plat. thanks. HuFlungDung 03-17-2006, 10:55 AM I'd use HSS steel and grind to a high positive rake, since chip flow is the typical priority when turning soft gummy materials. And, unless you are turning some 2" diameter solid round (or larger $$ :D $$), on a typical lathe you might have a hard time overspeeding, so just run it fast and feed it at such a rate as to give the required surface roughness. A high positive rake tool may also curl the chips into a coil so you can find every last particle, as well ;) |
