Anyone know how to build one? Took one apart??

I was looking into purchasing one, but thought it maybe possible to piece something together myself? I'm sure it is quite involved, maybe a mish-mash of exsisting parts from other devices???

I am not talking NIR but true IR I know there are blogs out there showing NIR how too's Just wondering if anyone out there can shed a little light on if it is possible to build one?

I have some true IR cameras, and the thing that suprised me is that they have moving parts inside. It also has a DSP, but the output is NTSC. I don't know what the imager is made of, and the lense looks special too.

When I give tours of my lab for kids, I like to have one of the helpers go lie down on the floor for a few minutes so there will be a thermal shadow there for them to see. You really don't have to be there long and the heat is visible for a long time. One time I had a batch of teenagers that all leaned up against the wall, which was pretty amusing when they saw the IR later.
