Reading that the 8020 linear bearings are ok for some but not all, has me thinking of ways of combining the simple skate-brearing assembly idea with 8020 components.
First drawing has the rod fully surrounded, which is going to make tuning and assembly a pain.
Second drawing requires the ability to 'rip' off the corner. It doesn't need to be an accurate cut, so maybe a jig saw wouldn't be too rough.
I'm still getting ramped up and planning my first machine. MDF or 8020 it's going to take me a while to commit to a design. (And I need a real drafting program).

(my 2nd post. Woo hoo.. be easy on me)
Examples use
40 Series 8080 extrusion
25mm rod
15mm bearings
