Manny,
Wher in Florida are you? As for the motors at a good price try this http://www.homeshopcnc.com/page3.html . and for the control boards try here http://pminmo.com/ I am currently building my system with the 260 oz motors and the 3977 boards the boards will cost roughlly $30 each. I am building my system out of wood and metal. Metal gantry, metal framed x and z with wood backing and the table is wood I have designed the system myself using ideas from many people on the forum I will put up a build log and specs in the next few months ( just real busy right now) good luck.

there was a set of xylotex on ebay, I think that would be a good place to start. I am a newbie as well, and the xylotex come with controllers and are pretty user frendly. They are not the best, nor the worst. But a good price for a first machine.
