Hi all,

I am looking for a way to fabricate a way to support a porter cable router so that is extremely rigid. At this time, I don't need a z axis, just a way to support it (clamp/bracket, etc...). But, down the road (month or 2) I would like to be able to adapt this setup for a z axis

Is there an off-the-shelf part for this? Does anyone have a quick and dirty "how to" on this from a previous post???

Can you machine aluminum? If no, you could fabricate a clamp or two of sorts from 3/4" MDF. Make a Square, cut it in half, cut out the two half moons, drill thru both halves for bolts and bolt it to the surface for the z axis.

Like Balsaman said only I would bore my hole in the center of the block and drill the holes thru for mounting before splitting the block in half. This will assure better alignment.

Thanks for the response guys...does anyone out there have some pics they could post of various "home made" z-axis setups that are extremely sturdy and do not require a machine shop to build.

One other option might be to rebuild the lower motor housing (endbell) out of aluminum, with extra material on one side of it which will permit you to make a bolt on mount. This would be the hard way to do it, but if you want to ensure some kind of permanent perpendicularity, this would be a way to do it.
