Hi Guys,
I am following these forums for a few days now and I am wondering if I could use the steppers from old laser printers for an CNC router. I have four "heavy" ones, Sanyo Step-Syn 2 of 4.2V 1.5 A and 2 of 4.1 V 1.1A, each a step of 1.8°. (and a lot of smaller ones :) ). Could I use them for a table as Joe's ?
Thanks in advance,
Hugo

Hugo,
The printer steppers that folks usually use are from the HP II & III's. Here's some various info. I've been collecting in preparation...

Subject: Laserjet III to linisteppers ..... how???? (See http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16976)

Now you can get the HobbyCNC Board which these motors work real well with, the instruction also has the right color wire coordination for them.
I would sugest you use a min. of 24v, but I wired three computer power suplies together in series with floating ground and got 33.6volts with 8 amps (amps are limited to the lowest amperage of power suplies, so if you have two 10a power suplies and one 8 amp then your end result will be 8 amps which is pleanty for these motors rated at 1.4a each. If you need help just let me know, I wish i was into this when i was your age.

Laserjet IIp and Laserjet IIIp aren't worth the effort. The motors in them are a Canon PM60-H418Z21B motor which I can't find any information on. Its a uni-polar stepper (6 wires) but the body is a non-standard size.
Thanks Rance,
The steppers I have are nearly the same, so I could use them. I have also received now the boards and processors to make UHU servocontrollers, what power the servo's must have to replace these steppers? Maybe I should ask this on an other forum ;)

Hugo & Rance,
Here's a link to the HP LaserJet II/III Stepper Motor Specs PDF (http://www.cnczone.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=5238) that I put together and posted a while ago. It may make a nice addition to your "collection" if you don't already have it. Let me know if I need to correct or add to any of the information provided.
Thanks,
HayTay
