I used some 1" wide high temp tape to mask off a 3" X 3" section of a part. The section is polished aluminum. The remaining section was sanded, powder coated, and baked with the tape in place to keep the powder off the polished section. When I pulled the tape off, it left a faint line where the edges of the tape ran across the piece.

I cannot for the life of me get that darn line off. Any suggestions for removing the line without damaging the finish or paint?

MEK is the most powerful solvent that is easily available. It may work. Its sold as PVC pipe cleaner/solvent. Be sure and get the one without the purple die.

That almost sounds like the paint edge where the tape was. If so the only way to get it off is to sand or scrape. If you have to preserve the paint and the finish on the alum it's not gonna be easy.

It is not the paint edge. It is the edge of the tape where I overlapped strips. It is faint, but there.

I will try the PVC pipe cleaner.
