I had a PM asking what a G-rex was.
You can find out more here http://www.geckodrive.com/product.cfm?pid=17
Basically it is a very fast CNC controller card that goes between your computer and your drive cards. It has a host of feaures that have up until now have been hard to achieve using a standard computer.

Thanks Bloy for been the cheif thread bumper here.
We dont want anyone to miss out on an chance to win one of these amazing devices.

Personally I would like to see some humerous entries, even if a person does two good entries and one funny one.

EDIT: I just noticed you made this thread a sticky. Thanks Paul. Mighty decent of you :) BTW up till now you have been excluded (by default) from participating in these sorts of comps, I guess it wouldnt be seen as as contraversial if you were to enter this one. I have noticed your banner skills of recent have been getting very good. I would love to see an entry form you :)

This will be the last bump by me to remind people about the competition.
After that there should be no excuses that a person missed out or wasnt aware of the comp.

I really hope all those who were planning on entering have either done so, or wont forget to do so. :)

Benny, does this g-rex come with the breakout board too? Mach4 licence?

What is the deal with the enclosure I see in the machsupport gallery, will those be standard?

Is this what you mean?
Yes, the case is included ....but without Benny's art work..
I don't know about the breakout or Mach3.....hmmmm, do you need a breakout board with this?

JFettig

the breakout board is what you wire everything to, without it you just have a bunch of pins and you could use ribbon cables for those but its a little harder to work.

Those look a little different than the origional cad drawings, the power plug and usb(ethernet) plug are lower than it seems that they should be from what I have seen.

They definately do look good. I was origionally hoping Marris would go with the box where the cards just plug into like he had in one of his drawings a while back so there wasnt such a wiring mess.
If it comes like that, then it appears the breakout board is attached and inside the box.

Jon, the truth is I dont know.
I will ask my very generous source if he has any other details.

As I understand this, all communications from the computer are through the ethernet. The parallel port is not used with the G-Rex. All the outputs of the G-Rex are then wired to all the various components such as the drivers, relays, etc. As it is now, Mach4 is proprietary to the G-Rex.

Here is what Art says:
" The printer port will be completly unused in MachIV for technical
reasons. Its either G100 or printer port. No mix. ModBus may be used with
the G100 though. Think of the G100 as a general printer port replacement,
just much faster.."

As I posted in the other thread, this thing is a sticker? or is it a banner or something?
what is this sticker for and going onto?

Jon

Yes Jon it is to be a sticker. At this stage there are no plans to print the winning sticker, but people who want a sticker could print thier own and place it on thier machine.

so if your not gonna do anything with the sticker, whats the point of this? I mean dont close it or anything, I still want to win a grex;)

Only 4 more days to go.
I am surprized at the small amout of entries. ( Maybe I will stop running these types of competitions in the future. I couldnt be bothered any more.)
That been said, thanks to those who have joined in the fun, and have descided to have a go. :)
Maybe people are holding back to the last minute.
Please dont get caught out with a late entry.
There will be no exceptions made for late entries

Special thanks to those who purposely helped me bump this thread :)

The winner has been announced.
http://machsupport.com/forum/index.php?topic=208.msg1452#msg1452

Special thanks to all those who participated, and my thread bouncing assistants :)

Art has descided to print the stickers and distribute them at the conference he is speaking at, as well as along with G-Rex sales.

Thanks Paul for making this thread a sticky. You can now remove this if you want. Much appreciated.
