View Full Version : All this time I wanted a Hummer
ynneb 01-30-2006, 05:45 PM In Australia a Hummer is a rare thing. Probably 1:100,000 ratio ( Guessing)
You might only see one on the road per year.
I didnt realise the bad sentiment they get in the States

I think I have now gone off the idea of getting one :(
tsutt 01-30-2006, 06:11 PM You need to get the real hummer not the watered down version, then you just drive over their car when they flip you off.  Todd
Switcher 01-30-2006, 06:13 PM Those are just the folks that are upset, because they can't afford one. :(
.
JFettig 01-30-2006, 06:38 PM hahaha h2s suck! lol if you want a hummer, get a real hummer.
a h2 is just a beefed up jeep.
Jon
unterhaus 01-30-2006, 09:12 PM I agree, the one to get is the civilianized military vehicle. I don't really understand what the attraction is of the h2 and h3 -- they are ugly for no good reason. Living near a college, all the companies used to drive in to town in decked out hummers, and I always thought they were really cool, even though they are too big to park anywhere.
The funny thing about the picture you linked is that the guy giving the finger is driving a large vehicle himself, at least judging from the angle relative to the other vehicles. Maybe he has a reason to be driving a truck everywhere, but most people I know might as well be in a ford focus for all they use their truck's capabilities. And his gallon of gas is just as burned up as the guy in the hummer's is. People's attitude towards other vehicles tends to be projected on the other drivers. If you assume Hummer owners are jerks, you'll pretty much find out that's true. Same thing for Prius owners, if you think we are the most wonderful people, you'll find out that's pretty much true.
I just picked up my new Prius today, saving fuel so all those Hummer owners can have some. I'm not the kind of person to flip gas hogs off, just hope they return the favor later when I can afford gas and they can't.
Al_The_Man 01-30-2006, 09:42 PM Anyway Benny, the last comparison test I saw done of a wide selection of off-road vehicles, including the Hummer down to the old Willys jeep.
The one that came out top was the Range Rover. The older Land Rover took me through one African desert.
Al.
spalm 01-30-2006, 09:42 PM That’s an amazing collection.
Thanks Benny, I needed a good chuckle.
Steve
You just brought back some memories Al. I had a 1954 Willy’s wagon with a straight 6 Super Hurricane. That thing in super low would climb a building. Even had a PTO.
posix 01-31-2006, 06:44 AM you don't want a hummer in the outback, mate you want a unimog.
DareBee 01-31-2006, 07:19 AM ha ha
I forgot about the Unimog.
Very impressive vehicle, I knew a guy with 1 - 20 years ago.
Always did well in the mud runs.
erase42 01-31-2006, 08:12 PM ive heard that in the US there is some sort of crazy tax break with a hummer, the original version anyway. the rumor is that in 1930 something there was a tax law on the books to help farmers. their combines and large tractors and stuff qualified by weight for a special tax break. Untill recently no privatly owned vehicle weighed enough to qualify, but the humvee made it by several hundred pounds. anyone confirm or deny this??
unterhaus 01-31-2006, 08:18 PM Yes, larger SUV's weigh over 6000lb qualified for tax breaks that a car wouldn't. Even though they are replacing a car. I think it may have been one year only, it was in a recent economic stimulus bill.
mikie 01-31-2006, 09:15 PM Benny,
From reading the title i thought you went Kiwi on us and wanted to fix your machine with a big Hummer, aka mallet.
spalm 01-31-2006, 09:33 PM Did you notice the poster?
http://www.fuh2.com/BuyPosterFlash.php
Does anyone know how to make one of these?
Steve
ynneb 01-31-2006, 09:39 PM Steve, thats observant, I did see the poster b4 but didint realise what t was until I went back after your comment. I know how to do the flash magnifier thingy, but dont know how they sorted the pics to display that way.
ViperTX 02-01-2006, 12:10 AM ynneb....actually my last girlfriend was a real hummer.....*chuckle*
ynneb 02-01-2006, 12:20 AM Viper you made a spelling mistake its spelt with an "M" and a "P" , not two Ms
posix 02-01-2006, 07:20 AM There are plugins for those things (making posters out of gazillions of little photos). It's a bit of a trick really.
ViperTX 02-01-2006, 11:10 PM ynneb....actually you're partially correct.....both would be correct...*smile*....I would call it a bifurcated deal....
rcazwillis 02-02-2006, 08:54 AM a h2 is just a beefed up jeep.

Don't insult the Jeep! LOL! I believe the H2 is a spruced up Tahoe. Same frame maybe. Either way, ugly!
DareBee 02-02-2006, 12:16 PM It is the same frame but it has an extra couple hundred pounds of reinforcing welded into it The same way the H3 is a heavily reinforced Trailblazer frame.
mkaake 02-08-2006, 11:51 AM The H2 is a polluter. Based on G.M.'s optimistic claim that it gets13 mpg, an H2 will produce 3.4 metric tons of carbon emissions in a typical year, nearly double that of G.M.'s Chevrolet Malibu sedan.
The H2 is a death machine. You'd better hope that you don't collide with an H2 in your economy car. You can kiss your ass goodbye thanks to the H2's massive weight and raised bumpers. Too bad you couldn't afford an urban assault vehicle of your own. Or could you...?
The H2 is a tax loophole. Under the current tax laws, business owners can deduct nearly half the cost of their H2s. If you are in the highest tax bracket, that's a tax savings of nearly $10,000! The government rewards you more savings for buying an H2 than you'd get for buying an electric car.
eh, just people who decided to hate a particular vehicle. You can find sites like this for lots of vehicles out there. Having driven an H2 (no, I don't own one), I can say that while it may not be it's older brother, it's capable.
other than that, their statements there are a little off the wall - a single H2 will produce 3.4 metric tons of carbon emissions? Now physics was a good subject for me, but not my best, so I'd like to find out how you make 3.4 metric tons of carbon... even if your gasoline all was converted directly to carbon, you'd have to go through some 46,000 gallons of gas to make that happen...
Anyway, never put too much stock in a sight that's dedicated to the hate of a particular *thing* be it car, computer, etc...
CNCRob 03-11-2006, 07:15 PM Man, 298 pages of nothing but people giving the Hummer the finger. I've seen it all now. LOL.
ViperTX 03-11-2006, 11:25 PM Well you don't miss the Hummer....until she ain't around anymore....*chuckle*.....
