View Full Version : Using Bobcad in an organized manner.
tjones 01-17-2006, 07:16 AM There are 2 links because they must both be downloaded, unzipped to one directory and then run the CAD.avi.bat file to combine the 2 files back into one file. It took a week for me to get these posted so download before they remove them from the sight. (free sight so they get removed on a regular schedule)
This video covers how to use Bobcad in a organized manner with some general usage that you may not get otherwise.

kenlambert 01-17-2006, 08:48 AM thanks I have them both downloading.
kenlambert 01-17-2006, 09:12 AM I am not able to open the files ,I get acsess denied.I put all the files in one folder and unzipped them to the same folder. Help needed please
tjones 01-17-2006, 10:11 AM You unzipped the files to one folder. Do you see the file called CAD.avi.bat?
If you do run that file. If you are running windows 95 or 98 there may be a file name issue. We may need to modify the names to get them to work.
If you can run that file it should create a another file called cad.avi
The new file cad.avi is the file to view as video.
Bloy2004 01-17-2006, 10:32 AM I got it to view! Thanks! Good useful info!
It was weird downloading. First my AVG said the .bat file was a virus, so i turned off AVG. Then the .bat file wouldn't run, so I opened a command prompt from START, accessories, COMMAND PROMPT and dragged the .bat icon into it. ACCESS DENIED! Then I "right clicked" on the COMMAND PROMPT and in the menu clicked "run as.." and a requester came up. I unchecked the "protect my computer.........." box and hit OK. The COMMAND PROMPT appeared again and after dragging the .bat file into it, the proccess was completed and the new "combined file" was ready to "click and view".
There must have been an easier way.... :D
tjones 01-17-2006, 10:45 AM Sounds like this is one of those XP things where they try to protect you from stuff you don't need protected from.
BTW: I have for several years been using NIS and NAV on this system. The files have been scanned and are virus free.
You may be able to turn off the XP protection and do the same thing but I do not know for sure. Mine is dissabled as I use Norton.
kenlambert 01-17-2006, 01:22 PM mine is doing the same as bloy2004 did ,I will keep working on it ,I also get the viruse warning from avg.
tjones 01-17-2006, 01:51 PM This video is one of those that Sorin makes working with Bobcad very handy. I watched this video 3 times the first month after going to class. It has some useful everyday tips.
Follow the tips Bloy2004 used if you have AVG. It has placed protections against running unknown batch (.bat) files to help protect unwanted programs from running. The Batch file is a simple command in dos. You can also run this command from the dos window.
Open a dos window from the directory you have the files located in.
Make sure the dos prompt shows the correct path to the files and type the command as follows
copy /b /y "cad.avi.1"+"cad.avi.2" CAD.avi
This is all the batch file does to combine the two files together. You may be able to copy and paste into the dos window.
Randy Stevenson 01-17-2006, 02:32 PM Thanks TJones!
The files downloaded and merged with no problems, but I had no video when I tried to play it (got a codec error message). I remembered this problem being referenced in another thread, so I went back to get the link to download the new codec. The link referenced ended up being invalid because the techsmith site moved some files, but I found the new link: http://www.techsmith.com/download/codecs.asp.
Everything works fine now, and I'm looking forward to reviewing.
Thanks Again,
Randy
kenlambert 01-17-2006, 03:02 PM I did finally get it to work thanks for the help
eng8248 03-13-2007, 01:58 AM The files are no longer available on the file-sharing site :(
tjones, or anyone who still has that video, can you please upload the video again so that I can have access to it?
That would be tremendously appreciated.
Regards!
msomerville 03-13-2007, 08:19 AM I haven't looked at those old videos but, there are more at www.cadcamtrainer.com
That is Sorin's site and you can ask Tjones for a password for some free tutorials.
tjones 03-13-2007, 11:25 AM Sorin has paid for a sight of his own to post these files.
Once signed up on his forum you can access the files for free.
Remember that Sorin paid for this out of his own money so help him out if you wish.

Martin 007 04-11-2007, 01:12 PM If the video is not that long and you have a lot of them, may I sugest that you create a youtube account,...It's free, and load them there. Then you can just post the link here. It's pretty easy. The first one you upload takes like 2 hours to finally post....But after that they go quick. I think it is a first time aproval thing. Just a thought that might make it easier for us to view your work. Which sounds worthy of checking out.

Doug,
All you have to do is register on Sorin's site like you did for this one. You will have 100% access to the Video Tutorials for BCC.
We only ask that members contribute experience and knowledge to the site. Donations are up to members and no one is pressured into anything. All donations go to supporting the website because it isn't free for Sorin.
Cheers!!!!!:)
Bobnewbie 05-02-2007, 02:17 PM Dear Tjones:
I work for some one else part time. When I finally got around to surfing over to the links you show the 2 files were "not found". Since I have downloaded all the other files from Mr. Sorin how would one get a copy of these files from you? I would appreciate any help you might be able to provide for a fellow machinist.
Regards,
Bobnewbie

Please go to Sorin's web forum and sign up there to get the access to his videos. The free sight I helped Sorin upload to was only temporary so he built his own sight.
