Greetings,
I have a BridgePort Discovery 308 w/ the SX15 controller. I am using a slightly modified Boss9 post processor and still have one issue. When using "deep cuts" for a contour cut I get a G0, rapid move, of the Z axis when the next depth of the cut is to be started. At present I go through the NC file and edit it, changing the G0 to G1, feed rate move. It seems that this is a problem only when a "lead in/ lead out" feature is NOT used.

I have not been able to figure out how this can be fixed in the post, or if it can be fixed. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Kevin

Hi

This sounds more like a problem with mastercam than with the post processor to me, when you verify it does it show as feeding or rapid?

Have you tried a different post like the MPFAN post to see whether it does the same thing?

That was one of my thoughts. The way I understand it, the post processor handles the manuver and generates the G code to accomplish that task. What is to be done is created by MCAM. I have run the verify but haven't noticed(or payed attention) to whether it does a rapid or feed. I have not tried another post yet but that sounds like a good idea.
Thanks,
Kevin

I've got a BOSS 6.1 and I am using Mastercam but the post for the Boss has many problems I've found, like circular milling in the X, Z or Y, Z plane, cutter comp and no subprograms.
It seams to me like the post was created for a much older version of mastercam, if this is the case it may be that deep cuts for a contour cut is not catered for.

I messed around with a couple different post and have found that the MPDX32 works the best. Yes, that makes sense I guess but I honestly never noticed it before. The Boss post was being used when I got this package and just decided to keep using it. I still need to modify the post a bit to eliminate a few unwanted items but it does make the feed rate moves now.
Thanks,
Kevin
