I've been searching for cad/cam software to use in a hobby application. I've never used cad before, other than just basic drawings. I've read good things about bobcad but can't determine if it is good for a beginner. I'm converting a lathemaster mill to cnc and will use it in my hobby gunsmithing business for cutting sight cuts and serations.
Can someone give me an opinion on bobcad 19 hobby pro as a beginner package. I can source it at $299 which seems reasonable for my limited budget. Thanks in advance.

I am not sure of the hobby versions limits compaired to the full version we have. I recently helped someone with their pistol grips in Bobcad. I think the package is great. There is a person making custom pool cues for over $1600 each doing all their inlays with Bobcad. And there are many hobiest out there using Bobcad.

We use in it comercial work doing 3D solid machining.

It is easy to learn and it opens several file formats so transfering of files from other cad software is pretty simple as well.

A year or so ago I came into contact with a man selling a computer aided CNC mini lathe setup for pool cues and inlays. His price was $2000 for the unit, computer and software. Does anyone know of such a man or deal? Unfortunately I lost his info in a move. Any help would be appreciated. Rogere
