I am on a budget (yes as everyone here.). I already have a waterjet and we do alot of sink cutouts. i would like to do edge profiles and basically al functions that a granite router can do.

I would be interested in using a Heian or similar large scale wood router.

I'm sure i would swap the sprindle and other components.

any advice would be appreciated. A source of a used cns router or cnc granite router would also be appreaciated.

I could build one as well, we do have welding and motion resources.

Any comments appreciated,

hans

Hopefully your on a big budget. I wouldn't advise trying to convert a wood router, as you'll need water coolant and a wood router isn't designed to be all wet. I'd look for a stone specific machine. Sorry, but I don't know where to find used ones.

would the wood router be rigid enough?

I'm sure the bearings and ways would have to have mods for washdown. I am also assuming the spindle would have to change to a stone specific spindle.

Thanks for the reply.

There are too many types to generalize. Some probably are, some definately not.
