I was designing a Cnc Bowling ball Driller. I have been sketching it up in autocad for afew weeks now. Id perfer 5 axis but i cant find any controllers for that. So im going with 4 axis. X/Y/A/B. Then i will control the drill bit debth my self.
I am not sure on which servo's / controller / software i should get yet.

Here is my design so far. Tell me what you guys think. BTW the peice the ball is sitting on in the picture turns for the B axis and the whole canapy pivits for the A axis. Then its sitting on a X,Y table.

All the holes in the canapy are for 1/4" all thread.

I will put it all in a large drill press or mill. I plan on using a vacuum device to hold the ball down. However i am unsure if this will have enough suction to hold the ball when the canapy is tilted up on large angles like 60 degrees.

Thanks,

When holes are drilled in bowling balls are they always perpendicular to the surface....it seems to me that they are not....

No they vary. I perfer to have some forward pitch on my finger holes and alittle side pitch on my thumb hole.
