Pro Desktop CAD drawings for a router very similar to pheonix, uses channel instead of window extrusion.

Ive been playing with this design for the past three days, havnt started building it though.

if you see any flaws with the design please discuss.

Looks like you put a lot of time into this. It is a good start. Your CAD skills will come in handy.

But since you asked, I have a few comments. You need to think strong. Look at the design and see if there is any way for anything to flex. Also look at the design and see if there is any wasted space that can be utilized. Three things jump out at me.

1) The blue board that will be your base has no support. It will bend up and down. A couple ways to solve this is with a torsion box or angle iron.

2) The green gantry sides have no support. They will tilt or parallelogram. You need to strengthen this.

3)The long rails on the X have no support. They will bend or flex. No one to my knowledge has found a rail/pipe/rod that can just float in the air like that and be stable. Also it looks like your bearings only ride on the inside and the top. When the router lowers, it can lift the entire gantry up and off the rails.

I have updated the design to include steppers and all mounting holes, ive taken on your advice and beefed up the extrusions so they no longer need additional reinforcements.

all structural joints are done by brackets

all holes 4mm holes are used for fastening (rivets/screws)

10mm holes for limit switches

and the and the dril rod floats in the air like that because i tell it to, you gotta show it whos boss.
