Somewhere in the internet was a link to the specs for the 7x12 mini lathe pulley and belt. I can't find it any more. I tried searching the 7x10 Yahoo group archives, but Yahoo sure has a terrible search engine!

Does anyone have this link, or know the dimensions and specs of the 7X lathe drive belt and pulleys please?

I want to replace the crappy plastic pulley and vibration prone belt with standard industrial parts. Unfortunately, the way I have CNC'd my lathe, makes it a really mission to srtip down to the motor drive, just to measure they parts, then assemble it all again to be able to use the lathe to bore the replacement pulleys.

(I am going to address the problem of cables run to prevent maintenance when I strip it down to fit the ball screws.)

Mark,
I have my headstock torn apart right now, and do not plan on returning it to its orginal form. I have a timing pully that I will bore out to 28mm and use as the spacer behind the rear bearing and the spanner nuts used to load the bearings. The orginal motor has a 8mm keyed(3mm) that is 15.5 mm in length. The jack shaft is 10 mm keyed(4mm) 10mm long and groved on either side to accept c clips. The plastic timing pulley that is on the jack shaft has 31 teeth is 9.5 wide and is about 45.6 mm in diameter. The pulley on the motor has 17 teeth and is about 24.3 in diameter. A little research on the pulley dia and number of teeth should reveal what pitch this is.

Thanks very much for that Tootalew.

Is the belt marked to say how long it is? If not could you please mark a spot, and run it along a surface and measure the length please?

Unfortunatly I made a nice bench which a drawer which holds all my lathe tooling, otherwise I would put a 3 phase motor unter the bench top and direct drive the spindle as you are planning.

I no longer have the belts that came with the machine, but I do have 4 brand new "real" belts that have the same pitch as the org gears. Little machineshop shows the belts as a LX136. I count 72 teeth, folded flat, I get 6 7/16" in length. circumfrance I get about 13 1/4"
