Can someone tell me how good the 8020 extrusions and their linear bearings are? I'm not looking for perfect precision but I'm concerned about the load they can carry and the binding. Are they just binding for people because rhey do not have them aligned well enough?

Anyone who has used or tried this let me know. I was looking at the 1530 extrusions and their bearings to use on my cnc router setup.

Just to let everyone know, I went ahead and ordered some 8020 extrusions and their bearings and got them in this week. I placed the bearing in the slots and was very impressed! The ones I got have no play in them at all and slide very nice up and down the 8020.

I will be building my machine over Thanksgiving weekend so I'll be sure to post my progress.

Tomorrow I'll post some pictures of the bearings and extrusions I bought from the 8020 garage on ebay. Although he says the stuff is used and may not appear to look new, everything I got from him so far looks brand new. And the bearings are new also without a scratch on them.

Unfortunately my wife had to fly to NY for the holiday due to her grandmother passing away (was expected though) so we put off our turkey dinner till Monday night. I have our two boys with me and we'll be eating spagetti! But I'll have alot of time to spend on building it this weekend. I'm upset because I bought all the hardware I needed at Home Depot today but forgot to get a blade for my miter saw to cut aluminum. Some of the extrusions are longer than what I needed. I was in the garage just now tapping threads into the end of the extrusions by hand.

any pic's yet, I am desining a 5 axis machine and am wondering what the play in them is like. Also I plan to be cutting aluminum to a very high presision. I am bacily wondering if I need to go with the slides or ball bearings.

cadfish....I would be looking at rails and trucks if you plan to machine any aluminum...

I will folow your progress I work on a recycling plant and we got tons of this bearings. We just scrap them and sell the aluminum.

They are ok. But just remember what they are. in between the mounting screws for the slides, i put a few set screws to adjust the slop in them.

I have some I will sell, Cheap. 1.5 x 1.5 and 1.5 x 3 40 series
