Hello, again everyone. I'll just shoot straight to it. I have two motors with no specicfics on voltage...at all. Is there a[universal]way to find out voltage(s) of any motor, in general?

Is there a[universal]way to find out voltage(s) of any motor, in general? Al_The_Man 10-19-2005, 09:10 PM Are they AC or DC servo's or steppers or? Al. praetor 10-19-2005, 09:50 PM I believe they are DC servo's but this predicament led me to ask the question, is there a way to find out the voltage of motors, in general Al_The_Man 10-19-2005, 10:56 PM s there a way to find out the voltage of motors, in general No, each type of motor requires a different approach, with the DC motor the speed is proportional to voltage, so feed the motor with a DC voltage, measure the speed and using the estimated maximum rpm of the motor, the maximum voltage can be obtained, generally 3000rpm would be considered tops for a DC servo, although high quality one can go as high as 5000rpm. Al. praetor 10-20-2005, 08:08 AM Hey thanks Al the man for clearing that up, everything you said sounds like a good begining for me, but one question,(obviously I am a newbie...I do have some training in machining, mostly milling. now I want to move towards lathe work and some electrical just so the end result I would be making my own cnc machine), how do I measure motor speed? I Appreciate your help, you the man Al! Al_The_Man 10-20-2005, 08:46 AM how do I measure motor speed? If you can borrow a tach, that would be the easiest way, otherwise a crude way is to apply a dc voltage low enough that allows the visual count/timing of the rpm, but the higher rpm the better. Al. praetor 10-20-2005, 02:42 PM Hey thanks a million, Al. I appreciate all the help. I'll try both ways, just in case I can't get my hands on a tach. I'll keep you posted on how everything goes. Again thanks, it's encouraging to see that there alot of people on this site that are willing to help others...cool. |
