I left Santa Clause a message saying I want the 3 axis chopper package with 200oz-in motors today. I plan on attaching them to a table top mill. The x-axis is 18 inches long and the y is about 8. I hope to be able to cut metal (steel). My question is are 200oz-in motors going to be able tocut steel?

they will but they will cut really slowly. using steppers with that low of a torque will decrease speed dramatically since you won't be able to directly couple the motors, you will need a pulley and belt setup and i would recommend at least 3:1 reduction to gain torque.

Your biggest problem cutting steel isn't the motors it's the stiffness of your machine. You will be cutting at low speeds and feeds. I just recently upgraded my first machine with these motors direct drive on 1/2-10 acme, they are pretty strong on the 17x30 machine with the hobbycnc board.

I want to use there stuff for a plasma cutter. 4" x 2" Dont know if the motors are strong enough. There will be almost no resistance from the machine. only friction of the slides
