Hi I'm a newbie to this Forum, I'm wanting to build a 4 x 4 moving gantry type router, I hope to use the router for routing semi-rigid foam (large instrument case type inserts) so accuracy can be comprimised a bit and cutter loading is pretty small.

I've had a bit of a mad idea to try and use some kind of air-slide for the X & Y axis, one idea I have is using Ally Box section say 4" Square, slotting down one face, (I have access to a mill at work), I'm thinking of using plastic blocks machined so that they fit fairly smoothly down the inside of the box section with a compressed air feed to the block - bleeding via small holes to the outer face of the plastic block.

I intend to use quite large blocks (there's lots of old plastic blocks at work!!)

and a couple of then per rail - large widely spaced type of idea.

am I mad or could it fly for me??

Someone once said it's not whether you're mad but if you're mad enough! :rainfro:
One thing is for sure - it'll be noisy!
