View Full Version : How to set the V bit ?? Biggermens 10-03-2005, 09:28 AM I am still trying to get it to cut nice i cut to deep or not deep enought i am just wondering how to set the Vbit and how to set the zero of the machine with the software ??? THanks JavaDog 10-03-2005, 09:59 AM Just out of curiosity, what type of material are you working with (ie Wood, Plastic, Glass, etc)? the_paco 10-03-2005, 10:53 AM V carving strategie should always be zeroed from the top of the material I believe... since it's a surface working strategie... wraped and non planar material can be a problem for light carving. As for how deep to do depends on may factors like the kind of material as JavaDog ask... general rule of tumb; lighter is better but longer... deeper is faster but risky... Hope this help... Biggermens 10-03-2005, 10:59 AM I am using white ceder the problem i am having is it cut 2 deep so the side get squared off and it dont look good the_paco 10-03-2005, 11:20 AM I believe you can set the stepdown (how deep each pass will be) in the 'Cut depth' field of the V carve toolpath settings. By squared of do you mean that the delicate parts of the carving gets knock off (break) of else... white ceedar is quite easy on knocking off corners... though it smell good! Biggermens 10-03-2005, 01:01 PM That is what i meen by squared the_paco 10-03-2005, 01:21 PM Yeah, OK, I know what you mean now... hopefully this will be fixed in the next release (I hope I don't say too much?!)... with the current available release, VCW does'nt stepover for too small a bit compared to design widness; in other words, with this version, you need a cutter that is as wide (or larger) than the largest part of your design... do I make sense? You might want to contact VETRIC support to push for the next release... :D Biggermens 10-03-2005, 06:08 PM My Bit is 1/2" wide the_paco 10-03-2005, 07:01 PM I made some looking at the current release and if you set the tool used as it is for real (1/2" wide) and your design have any part of it wider than 1/2", you'll get informed that it won't carve properly... see attached. There are also a huge number of new features available with this release, including ... Flat Bottom V-Carving, optionally using two tools. Profiling outside and inside of selected vectors Machining along selected vectors at a specified depth Pocketing for selected vectors Support for ball nose and engraving cutters as well as end-mills and v-bits A tool database has been added to store tool geometry and speeds and feeds And many more improvements ... For a more complete list see http://vectric.com/vcarve-download/WhatsNew/WhatsNew.htm As before, a trial version is available which lets import your own geometry and calculate and preview toolpaths (but not save them). You can however save toolpaths for the provided example files and cut them on your machine. |
