View Full Version : Shutting down befor part is finished?
Ken_Shea 07-31-2003, 09:09 PM Is there a best way to shut down my Haas, the part is only half finished?
Will this require re-setting work offsets?
It is about to storm and I do not like to leave it on during thunder storms.
Thanks
Ken
HuFlungDung 07-31-2003, 09:13 PM Hi Ken,
If you always home your machine, you shouldn't have a problem restarting, but hopefully Ward can stop in here with the particulars.
If you have any holes in the part, you could always move to that position and dial it to check that you are exactly in the same place. That's how you'd have to do it if you crashed into a clamp or something, anyways.
Ken,
Just shut the Mother down. It will rehome when you restart and it will also start in the middle of a program. It will go back and look at the code above where you start and make sure the right tool is loaded and everything. Then it will pick up where you left off.
Call if you need help.
But go shut it down, before the storm hits. Just press feed hold then reset and power up restart. then when it get home just power down.
Ken_Shea 07-31-2003, 09:21 PM Dang Hu, that makes me nervous, that is the third time today someone has mentioned crashing my machine, reminds me of a retractable gear airplane I had some years back, when everyone said there are only two types of retractable gear pilots, those that have landed gear up and those that will
Thanks

Depending on my mood, and how long the machine will sit, I will park the table close to the middle to power it down. Then on startup, the Powerup/Restart button will home it.
It sounds like you usually leave your machine on when you go home? If so, you may be interested in this..
HAAS has a command you can put into a RUNNING program, that when hit, will put the machine to sleep for up to (I think) 3 days.
If you're like me, you warm up the machine for 10-20 minutes in the morning. With this sleep command, you can put it at the beginning of your warmup program and run it before you go home. The machine passes out cold, then wakes up and runs the warmup before you come in.

BTW, ken, if you're part has critical dims yet to be done, i.e. closer than .0003 or so, you might consider indicating it in when you power it up, 'specially if you're make one part with one piece of material.. :D

Ken_Shea 07-31-2003, 09:30 PM That is good to hear, it is now shut down and off, including circuit breaker.

Ken_Shea 07-31-2003, 09:41 PM Rekd,
I left it home tonight just to get it shut down quickly, but I do not like all that overhang so it is almost always centered before shutting down normally.
Right now .0003 is a little to tight for me but I think this equipment is like most of the guns I sell here, it will machine tighter then the operator (ME) and these guns shoot better then most people that shoot them :)
Thanks
Hu, Ward, Rekd I feel much better now.
Ken,
If you want to restart your program in the middle, say not at a tool change, but in the middle of a bunch of lines of code. Then you need to make sure that Setting #36 "Program restart" is turned on. If you want to start it at a tool change then it should be ok, and setting #36 can be off.
I'm not sure about the Toolroom mill, but most Haas machines are shipped with setting #36 turned off. This is so when you restart at a tool change, say 10 tools into the program, it doesn't go all the way back to the start and scan all the code to make sure everything is in order before it takes off.
It is nice (and safe) for it to this if you are starting in the middle of a huge program, but somewhat of a pain every time you restart.
Call if you need help.

Not to go O/T or to hijack the thread, but that's another thing I loved about the fadals, using the AU command to tell it where to start, how to start, (read thru or blind start), and if you read thru, where do you want to start reading from?? That's a biggie on a 1 meg + file that you HAVE to mid tape start.
