Not a whole lot that i can see. A few minor 3d tweaks, and a more confusing than before Post processor standard.

Still the overpriced, drab looking CAM package that its been since ver.7

Actually there is quite a bit new w/ Mastercam
Wofk coordinate offsetts (WCS), Entity attribute(EA)
manager, Much improved Solids, High Speed Machining
And much more than i could talk about.

Is Mastercam still overpriced for us small shops?

Is it easy to use, or does it take months to learn, and is fluency with it hard to retain?

Are post processors extensively modifiable (by the user)?

What other CADCAM have you used and what kind of strengths do you find in each package? Personally, I think that one package never has everything, but its hard work finding the right software at the right price that will work well in a person's chosen field.

I've used gibbs, smartcam, procad, mastercam, uni-graphics,
and even bobcad when it was just a pup back in the dos days.
Gibbs was good just like they said "the machinist cadcam".
Bobcad is ok for what you pay for it.
Smartcam i just never liked probably because i already used
mastercam. UG, way powerful!! much to learn. Best of the Best.
But all around Mastercam is the complete package. In my opinion
not to much to spend if you want to complete the job right.

I've used master cam, nice program but it sure used alot of steps to get a end result. I guess for what I was using it for it was to powerful. I used it for a woodworking company, using a thermwood router table, cadcode probably would have been a better way to go.

Bobcad is actually pretty simple. And inexpensive.

CNCadmin have you had a chance to try Mastercam Router there is a new release of 9.1 router that is more rebust.

As for new thoughts on MC there is full support of VB scripts and more solds options there are more tools for contour and pocketing.

More tools for 5-axis .

For some on the GUI VersionX will be a revamp of the GUI over all.

(Is it easy to use, or does it take months to learn, and is fluency with it hard to retain?) It really matters on what you want to do.
I can have you doing some basics in one day for most.
