I don't think he's looking for guitar stuff. I think he's looking for scroll saw type fretwork.

Go down to your local Borders Books or other book store and look thru there books. There are tons of patterns for scroll saw. I have cut a bunch of stuff from the books on my router. From a jewlrey box turned coffee table out of 3/4" to a delicate 3" tall cross out of 1/8" wood. Takes some time to vectorize the pattern but then you can cut it over and over at any scale.

Hey There,

Have you done much fret work? I'm just getting started with a home built router and I'm having problems finding that middle area between too fast of feed rate with bit breaking and too slow of feed rate with burnt wood. I've gone through numerous bits. Tried various number of passes. Tried bits that range from .0222 to just a regular diamond tip bit. I'm trying to cut out Christmas Ornaments that I normally cut out on the scroll saw. If you have any tips, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Scott

The smallist bit i use is 0.0625" dia. For cutting 1/4" wood i will make two passes then a skim pass. 10,000 rpm at 60 ipm.

Thanks for the info. Any idea what kind of stores might carry them. I know I can order them through a site like precisebits.com, but I need something pretty quick.

Thanks,
Scott

Try looking under machine tool supply in your phone book. Some of the better places will carry 1/16" end mills with a 1/8" shank. I buy mine from bits n bits.

Thanks strat,

Hey it looks like whiteriver posted stuff up there also, same pics as above.
I love that SG1 project you did Donny,
did that take you long to draw up?

That is a great site.

Thanks.
By the SG1 project do you mean the Gate? If so I found it on the web. Then took a hour or so to generate a tool path and a few hours to machine it.
