Any ideas on the best CAM to use for HSM applications and what do you think of Pro-Man?

Never used ProMan.

Mastercam has a very nice set of features for HSM.

pro/man supports hsm. constant load, follow hardwall etc. i like pro/man hsm more than mastercam hsm. i've used them both. hope this helps.

There is also a new HSM c-hook for MCAM. Very nice indeed.

Proman did not score very well in my benchmark at work. We now use PowerMill and it runs HSM great!

Pronc,

Are you using Pro-man daily in your work or are you an occasional user. What is the type of work you are using Pro-man for?

In the past I have used Tebis, Pro Man, UG and Cimitron. Of them all Pro Man would rank last with ug or Tebis on top.

This was for 3D applications. Mold and Die. If you need to do true HSM 600ipm+ then all the lower end applications (masterCAM, SurfCAM, GibbsCAM etc...) would not be a choice of mine.

To that list you can also add Work NC and Powermill. Both have a very good range of HSM options.

A good thing to do if you are serious about HSM is to add VersCut with all the optimizers. These work FAR better than anything that the cam programs can do and you can optimize output from all cam softwares.

Klaus,

i use pro/man everyday. here at work they consider me as "super user" or whatever the hell they mean by that. i use it for everything from prototyping casting, plastic injection mold part to production and tooling. oh did i mention tooling design too? regarding hsm, the new rough and rerough in wildfire is awesome. with contant load option and scallope control on you are really high speed. hope this helps.
