Hi,

I'm interested in using a Sherline lathe to make musical instrument parts, particulary guitar bridge pins and end pins. Can someone point me to beginner resources for this tool and techniques for turning a single tapered pin without excessive material usage? I am working in Ivory and Snakewood, and these materials are NOT cheap. I have a Liberty CNC converted Jet mini-lathe, but I have not found the live tool (Porter Cable laminate trimmer) to be very good for this application.

I use Vector CAD / CAM and Mach1, so I have reasonably good software support currently.

The sherline is ok if what you doing is light duty, I found that for the same money the 7x10 or the 7x12 to be a more capable machine.
