Hi, I have a couple ER20 spindles here with 14mm shafts, the only problem is that I cannot find 14mm ID bearings for them, miljnor found me some for $8 a peice and only like 15K RPM, I am looking for something that can handle a little more.
If anyone has any sources, please let me know,
Thanks,
Jon

I looked around a bit for ya - didn't find much in the way of 14mm ID.
I use these guys - http://bearingsdirect.com but I didn't see ANY 14MM ID bearings.
Could you bush it to 15mm? Much more common.

If I can get some sleves that are precision ground perfectly, I probably wouldnt mind doing that quite so much anyore that I have now looked everywhere. but where do I find these bushings/sleves?
I will give miljnor a ring about those.

These are the spindles I have, I have 2 more comming. They are ER 20, I plan on making spindle boxes or heads for maybe a couple routers or a high speed spindle for engraving and stuff for me.

Looks like it would be easyest to turn them down to 1/2 inch.
could do it yourself if your using low quality bearings. or the cost savings going with 1/2 might pay for someone else to do it for you with high quality bearings.

sendkeys, these are precision ground, I wont even try to turn them down, it wont only ruin them, but I doubt it would even cut. I am looking at some sleves, a friend is going to get back to me on these.

I would sleeve it up - for stability.
I would shrink fit a sleeve, then finish grind it assembled for accuracy.

When i said turning i ment grinding :) seeing it's only .05
sleevers i seen at mcmaster are out .001 so they will need turned and so low end bearings are .0004 or so.(unless you're talking highend if they even make them in 14mm) finding ground tube in the size of the od of a 14mm bearing might not even be available so again you're looking at more runout if you do it yourself :P
One guy on the from here made his own spindle with a 9x20 lathe with just a normal grinder setup with .0001 runout :P
Just somthing to think about. But hay if you can find the 14mm bearings go for it sure would be alot easyer :)
p.s if anyone will have them give http://www.awbearings.com/awbearings/ a call they had my p5 roller bearings when everyone else didnt :P

Not to detract from the thread. but I just heard a good story about Abec-9 bearings..
Something youll never see! The bearings wear made for the Nuclear subs so they could run quiter.. I guess someone was selling them to the russians back in the day, and thats how the guy I know found out about them.. (they used to be top secret)
pretty trippy.. jee I wounder if I should buy some for me router. (its so damn noisy)
