i have here at work an old machine that i have absolutely no information on. this is what i believe i have. it is a brown&sharpe machine. i think it's an older (50's or earlier even)version of a horizontal mill? we use it to slot screw heads in a fixture.it has an inserted cutter wheel on the arbor that we use. just push a button and the cutter turns and then feeds the table across (with the parts) into the cutter and when done, trips a microswitch and then retracts back home. it uses an air cylinder to move the table. the table is about 24" long but doesn't travel that far. i only see 1 number on the entire machine.(r3957) i don't know if that means anything or not. i've searched the web on everything i could think of but no luck.

Well when you push the start button, it is supposed to make a rapid movement up until the fixture then feed slowly during the actual cutting. now it rapids about 2/3 the way thru the fixture before it feeds. so now i can only do 1 or 2 parts at a time instead of the usual 6. i think it's an air problem of some sort in the machine itself. air line goes up into the table somewhere. i don't want to tear it apart when i don't know about it, or even if it will do any good. the air cylinder itself seems to be working fine so i dunno...

As this is a 'Point-to-Point' machine, I would expect to see a limit switch that detects when it should go into feed mode, as it is air operated, then there is probabally a flow control valve which is switched in at this point, this can be achieved by use of a aux valve placed accross the flow control to by-pass it when in rapid, as soon as the feed limit is seen then the aux valve drops out and the flow valve takes over.
The fact that everything seems to work except that the stroke is shorter? Indicates the limit may operating late.
