I have just taken a chance by buying a 3 foot wide inkjet printer. (300 bucks)
The guy assures me it works. ( I might be too trusting) He couldnt demo it because it is a typical trash and treasure any type of machinery store.
It has many 1 litre ink containers that are mostly full. The guy tells me that they cost 2000 bucks to fill.

Has anyone had any experince with the Calcomp brand of printer?

What are the typical things that can go wrong with them?

I guess I am feeling a little silly about buying this thing untested.
I am hoping someone will tell me that this sort of machine costs 20 grand and I have got myself a real bargain.

Maybe .... you are in luck.

These printers, like any others, need a software driver.
If you do some Google searches, you will come up with
sites like:

Good luck !!!

Thanks Fred, I had actually found that site.
I didnt tell the whole story. I actually put a 50 buck deposit on it with 250 more to pay. In the end i rang the guy and said I didnt want it. He has been quite good about it all and will give me 50 bucks credit to spend at his store.

By rights he could have just said too bad to me.

In the end I descided it might be just too hard especially since the company is now out of business, and the drivers ar from the 90s. I recon it would be lucky to print 600dpi at the maximum.

There is a plotter down there for 100 that I recon would be much easier to convert to a vinyl cutter and probably pay for itself better in the end.
