    resizing help needed

Hi, Hoping to get some help, I have made a 3d file of a santa teddy that im making into a intarsia, Any way what im trying to do is cut an outline of this model I made, I did the dfx file in alibre but I can size it to the right size I need, The model is 10" high by 9"wide. It has to be exacttly the same size as the 3d model. The cut out will be used as a glue up template. Any help get this to work would be great thanks.Graham

Thanks for your help Ger, the 3d file is made with, photo shop, gmax and silo.
The dfx you sent is perfect but I cant get the width size. If I can get that then I can just scale the model in cut 3d, Cant believe how hard it is just to scale somthing so simple. Graham

I'm curious how you drew an outline in Alibre of a 3D model created elsewhere.

And it's not a simple scale operation, you'll need to stretch it in one direction only.

Well you can draw an out line from a 3d model by taking a screen shot from cut3d then trace that, but the way i did this one is because its a free pattern I got from an intarsia artist. Its a adobe reader file I traced that from.
Hhow did you stretch the dfx Drawing?

I didn't stretch it, I scaled it in AutoCAD.

Ok, so can that be scaled in alibre, I couldnt for the life of me find a way to scale this, I also downloaded A9cad but no luck in scaling there either. Tried to scale in cambam as well, Is autocad like the only thing to scale with? Thanks for the help here Ger. Graham

You should be able to scale it the same way I did with A9CAD. Does it have a scale command? try typing scale?

Here's how I did it. Use the dimension tool to figure out how tall the drawing was. I get about 10.376. Divide 10 by this number - 10/10.376=.96376 Use the scale command and scale by .96376 and it'll be 10" tall.

Thanks ger, I wonder why you cant just save the drawing to the size you want? Like if I want to save it at 10"L x 9"H like when you save a jpeg or somthing. Graham

You can, that's what the scale command is for. And typically, it's far easier to draw it the right size to start with. It's also relatively simple to edit the .dxf file to get what you need. However, what you're trying to do is not a typical process. What I'd do, is export the 3D model from Silo in a format that you can load into a CAD program, then use the actual model to draw the perimeter, snapping to the points on the 3D model. This may require a different CAD program than what you have available, though.
