    Alibre Design Install Questions

I was reffered to Alibre by a poster here on CNCzone after I said I still haven't been able to get a chance and put solidworks on the new Laptop.

Anyways, I go to install Alibre and it says I need to install Microsoft Java Virtual Machine. My question is, is there any way around installing this? What will this program (MJVM) affect if I do install it? I am currently running MS Vista Ultimate. I do not have any CAD/CAM programs installed yet, if that matters. I use this computer more for entertainment/gaming/every day computing more than I will eventually design. But I will eventually be forced to install AutoCAD & Solidworks (College Student).

Any input? What is the purpose of MJVM ?

    Thanks,
    Todd

Alibre 9.2 and older are written in Java, so you must have the Jave virtual machine for them to run. Alibre 10, available next week supposed to be all .Net I think I read somewhere. The MJVM should not affect anything else that I can think of.

I run alibre on a Media center PC recording TV at the same time. Works fine.

The MSJM is just microsoft's version of java. No harm.

    Installed.

Pretty sweet program. Have only had a couple minutes to play with it, though.

    Thanks,

There is a major re-write porting to .net but I think there are still some java required in V10. Not really sure but if V10 comes out and it is installed in a system without java then we could find out for sure.
