    Red face Questions about Alibre

How do you Translate Geometry up in the Z axis (using G17 work Plane) to Create a Loft??????

Do you have to Sketch the different Geometry in a separate Plane???
If so, how is that done???

The example is a Circle, Square, and a Rectangular Base all on different Z Levels that I would like to Loft as a Model.

I'll try a few more things in the mean time but it is getting a bit frustrating LOL.

    Toby,

I'm probably confused by the G17 reference but that sounds more like a CAM question than an Alibre design question.

Are you asking how to create a rectangular boss on top of a cylindrical boss, which is on top of a square boss or some mix thereof?

I've never done any lofting in Alibre, but I think that's how you'd do it. Create a new sketch plane at the location of each sketch. I just tried it, and that's how it works. If you right click on the XY plane, you can Insert Plane and specify the location of the plane.

After smacking my head against the monitor for about 5 minutes I figured it out. Here are the results. Thanks for the reply.

Ok what gives???? Why won't Alibre allow a Fillet between a Spline and a Straight Line????? They are on the same Sketch so that isn't a factor.

Is there a way to Force Alibre to do this????

Ok after beating my head on the keyboard for half an hour the problem was solved. The Sketch had to be modified by creating a perpendicular line, the Fillet , then the Spline. There is a flat spot that wasn't planned in the Revolve Cut but it will have to do for now. This is an all new learning curve.

After seeing TJone's Boat Propeller I was compelled to do one too. There is a lot of work in this. Some of the dimensions are weird though.

I will have to get a lot better at the 2D drawing in Alibre.

Here is what is done so far. You can see the Swine Flat Spot highlighted in the one pic and the other the full part. There is a weird reference dimension of 4.5125 there that will be changed later to around 4.5 LOL.

The Splined/Broached Bore and Hub Modifications will be next.

One thing is for sure. BCC is a Lot easier to draw in 2D than Alibre.

It's all based on what you are use to. Alibre will seem pretty easy once you get some time with it.

Your not kidding!!!! You posted some very impressive geometry on the other forum.

All things take time to learn. Alibre has a lot more functions so it is going to be a while until I get a little comfortable with it.

Was that what it was? I wonder if it works? Maybe I should try to machine it with Bobcad and give it a test....hmmmm....guess I would need a boat to put it on though.

Not so sure the design was a usable model but it was more for trying things out in a new way. But at least it looked good.

Now if I could just get a job that would pay me to do absolutely absurd designs that mean nothing and do nothing!

    IS ALIBRE STILL IN BUSINESS?
In March, I tried to download Alibre since it seemed like a good program to have at home. At the time I was working for a large co that used CATIA. Turned out it wouldn't work on my WIN98 machine. Seemed like a decent oufit, even got a phone call from nice person on phone who gave me her email in case I upgraded computer, which I recently did. Kickbut system, lotsa gigabytes, bells and whistles, you know the drill. Anyhow, downloaded it and when I went to open the program, here is the message I got:
c:\users\jerry\desktop\AlibreInstall_V92.EXE is not a valid Windows application. So I went to email this person and the email bounced "No such..."
Then I went to Alibre website and all the "Contact us" links appear to be dead. Tried to join the forum that is linked from website, filled out registration form and there seems to be no way to send it.

You may have tried this when the Server was down. I had a few problems with my email not allowing Alibre to send Keys and Access to their website. I think it has something to do with .net addresses.

Anyhow, try again if you wish too. It is worth it if you get it because the power per price index is 1000 fold IMOP.

    Cheers!!!!!
