I am going to take a guess, is it only 1 file or different files?
I create files in Alibre 13 and export as a stp and then open in BobCad ver 24.
Usually when I have problems it is the file itself.
Hello all,
I've been trying to import various file types from Bob CAD. I'm having a problem importing igs files, step files, SAT files, and 3DM files. I've tried many import options and nothing works. I have even created and Igs file with Alibre and tried to import it back into Alibre and it doesn't work. Am I doing something wrong or is there some compatibility issue that I don't know about? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Carl

Can you open this in BobCad?
this was drawn in Alibre 13 and I can open this in BobCad 24.

The problem I've been having is when I create in Bobcad and importing into Alibre, I can't seem to get any thing to work.
I guess my file didn't upload.
I made some solid shapes in BC and export as a stp, imported to Alibre and looked like the sphere wasn't all there. After selecting the import in Alibre, do you have a window open "file options" window?

What I meant by "I can't seem to get anything to work" is that no matter what format I saved my file in from BC, say IGS, STEP, SAT Alibre would not open it. Yes I do get the file options window. What options did you choose when opening the stp file?
In the pic, this is the way I have mine set.
If you want to post a sample, I will see if it does or does not work on mine. I'm sure others would check also.

okay, I'll try to send the step file that Alibre would not open. I think I'll have to zip it.
Here's the stp file. I hope it comes in
Ok, I can confirm your stp file doesn't import in Alibre.
It will import in MOI.
I opened your stp file in BC and saved as iges and sat and both of them would open in Alibre.
I have had a lot of trouble with this myself in the past. I almost never import in Alibre from BC because I don't have a need to anymore. I export stp files in Alibre and open in BC and don't have too much trouble as long as my drawing has good geometry.
sounds like to me that you are doing everything right.
If I remember correctly, I never could get the stp to import into Alibre, always used the iges or sat.
Do you have MOI?
I imported your test block stp file into MOI and exported as 3dm and then imported into Alibre and it worked fine.
Maybe someone else has a solution.

Ok much thanks David for your efforts. Maybe I need to reload BC. I'm sure I'll be able to work around it. I don't often have to import from BC. I don't have MOI, but I just checked it out, it looks pretty cool. Im more of a hobbiest than any thing else. I built a DIY CNC router. I'm having a blast with it.
Thanks again, Carl
Export from BCC as a STEP, Import into Alibre in a None-Alibre STEP.
Alibre has their own STEP Format for Alibre Users to send to one another. Alibre STEP Files still have the Design Tree with smaller file size.
Export from Alibre as a STEP214 for other software to import.
Another note on STEP Files make sure they are solids.![]()
