    SSHD install problem

I purchased the AJAX CNC kit and have finally completed stripping out the old control for my mill. I have started by getting the PC ready for install and have run into a snag. The installation documentation does lack in a the detail side and I have contacted Ajax tech support via email and am waiting to hear back from them.
The problem I am having is with the IDE flash drive. I plugged it into the motherboard IDE connection and connected the power supply. When I power up the pc I get a "bootable device not found" message. Everything I have read and understand is that I should simply be able to plug this into the motherboard and it should boot normally. It doesn't. The PC I am using is a stripped down unit which basically consists of intel motherboard and CPU, power supply, videocard and the IDE flashdrive (SSHD). I believe the connections are correct (IDE cable connected to motherboard and SSHD and power supply) but cannot figure out the problem. When I look at the BIOS menu, it shows no hardrive and no other drives present. Can anyone suggest any fixes?

    Robert,

I sent this (and another, earlier reply) by email as well but thought I'd follow up here as well.

    Robert,

One last thing to check, we sent an 80 pin IDE cable -did you use it? From the pics it looked like you had but it's hard to tell for sure. Newer HD's often don't play well with the old 40 pin IDE cables which is probably the reason 40 pin cables are no longer used.

The fact that your Motherboard now won't get past POST to let you in the BIOS sounds like there are definitely issues with the MB.

    For replacement:

Any current PC components should be fine. I know of nothing current that won't run.

We currently use an AMD 7500 dual core, I have two Intels at home, one a quad and one dual core and I know of nearly a hundred of flavors of CPU's & clock speeds that have come in the last two years and all of them work without a hitch.

Did the IDE port on the board work with the old HD? ie. Was it tested recently?

    Regards

    Scott

Is the compact flash card securely plugged into the slot in the reader?

Try ejecting and reinserting the flash card.

I've researched a lot on the forum here and it looks like Ajax will be the ticket for my needs.

Scott, I think you are doing one heck of a good job with support and your company. I know how frustrating it can be, to have some folks continually whine and complain endlessly and want it yesterday, and use forums to complain thread after thread. It really gets old even to us readers.

Impatience is truly a curse to some folks I think, specially in America where there is no patience for study anymore, and the respect of a small business owner as yourself, that probably risked much to bring innovative products to the market, to help us, and hopefully place a few dollars in your pocket in the end.

People just do not realize how much work it takes. How much work it takes to sit on the phone even for hours on end, helping everyone. I do and have done it.

When I buy- you will hear no whining, complaining and the use of forum threads as bully pulpit to complain and to get a response when it's only been 1-2 days from me.

I'm curious the point of your post. It certainly doesn't address the problem I am having and the topic of this post. You are certainly entitled to your own thread to make statements and advance whatever agenda you might have, but I would certainly hope you would respect this thread and only post suggestions which may address the topic.

Just an update for those following me, so that they can make an informed purchase when they are considering this product:

I was able to resolve my problem. I was trying to re-use a second hand PC I had purchased to try and save some time/cash. Big mistake. I purchased the motherboard recommended by Scott, I purchased a different CPU because the one Scott recommended was no longer available, and a 2GB memory stick from Newegg.com (also recommended by Scott). I assembled everything and it worked without any issues. One word of caution is that the CNC program auto executes and starts the demo period right away which caught me out when I tried to install the drivers that came with the motherboard. Scott has been helpful and responsive to my technical questions.
