Regarding the ballscrew, I haven't had the time to fully check it out as of yet. Hopefully this weekend I may have time to see if there is a difference from the middle to the ends. I was planning to remove the ballnut and replacing it with a preloaded one from Nook.
As for bearing ends, I was going to use Nook's EZM 3015 bearing ends, double row angular contact. They will slip right on. Somewhere around here I've got 10 new units.
How much do you need to shorten it, if it is not that much, why not design in a little "overhang".
