As this is a 'Point-to-Point' machine, I would expect to see a limit switch that detects when it should go into feed mode, as it is air operated, then there is probabally a flow control valve which is switched in at this point, this can be achieved by use of a aux valve placed accross the flow control to by-pass it when in rapid, as soon as the feed limit is seen then the aux valve drops out and the flow valve takes over.
The fact that everything seems to work except that the stroke is shorter? Indicates the limit may operating late.
