8020 components comments

The following is based on my opinion and observatios only.
When I first came upon this forum I wondered about 8020, since I had some pre-knowledge of the product line I thought it would make a great place to start my entrance into dyi cnc machines. Well I read some threads that all but discounted the linear bearings integrity. I've since learned that if one chose to use them they are very sturdy bearings. One must apply a certain common sence approach to building with them as with any material. If using 8020 is like using the Igus polymide bearings then go ahead and save yourself some money and agravation.8020 rocks. If I had used 8020 I'd a had a much larger machine for what I just put out for a commercial model. Just my 2 sence you see.

I will build again and use 8020 bearings. I will build it solid and robust so it will handle my 1.5 hp variable speed motor and spindle. No flimsy linear rods this time. ha,ha,ha,ha!!!!!!!!!!!

I love working with 80/20 it makes for a clean looking machine and for the cost it's a great value.

I don't want to derail the thread but could someone give me a place to get pricing on 8020 products without registering? I hate registering in forty places or having to request a quote just to get a little information. I tried to get information on 8020 earlier today but gave up after visiting all three of their listed dealers and not being able to find pricing. I don't know what I want or if I want anything from them until I get some idea of cost.

It looks good but is it as stiff as rectangular aluminum tubing for the same bucks?

I believe you have to use their AutoQuoter or call your distributor.

I got a bit frustrated when I kept hitting dead ends. I stumbled on some good information about 8020 or a very close cousin at Futura Industries complete with at least a 2004 price list. I didn't see any accessories except fasteners and brackets at 8020, or didn't realize what I was looking at. At Futura it is very easy to see the advantages of the system. If I can adjust the slack out which should be easily do-able it looks ideal for the moving table machine that looks like my best bet at the moment. Possibly substitute some IGUS bearings. May still go with another configuration when all factors are considered but this definitely looks like I could build a "kit" moving table with no real design or fabrication involved.

I downloaded the price list from their site at same time as the catalog. I called one of the local company’s that sell their product and they said they go by the price list on the 8020 site. She also told me all they do is drop ship.
