Cry for help :(

I want to build my first cnc machine based around 80/20. Ive drawn it up in CAD and have absolutely everything I need except for the 80/20 frame which no one will seem to take my money for....let me digress. I'm in the military stationed in Germany and my only request is that the order be split in two boxes due to weight and shipped USPS. Sent 80/20 my order form direct...no response. Sent to several distributors...no response. No one will even give me the time of day to send an email back that says "no." So, Im holding $900 order form which includes machining, brackets and hardware and no one is willing to help. If anyone knows who will take my order I'd be in your debt. I could alternatively have it shipped to a stateside address to be forwarded to me but then I pay shipping twice....

You might want to try an aluminum extrusion competitor, Misumi. The extrusions are metric, but converting imperial units to metric would be worth your time considering how much you would be saving on shipping.

I might have to look into these as options if 80/20 wont help me out. Just sucks because all of their products can be downloaded in CAD format and the Misumi stuff I'll have to draw by hand. This is so frustrating.

I think Bosch profiles might be more popular in Europe.

Did you click on the link? You can download 2D or 3D CAD files for the extrusions. It says you need to log in for that, but use a disposable email if you don't want to worry about spam or whatever.

I saw that but it requires a premium account...you have to give them everything to include your bank account.

Do they use a distributor network? Perhaps a distributor's website might have CAD files. Just a thought.

there is really no point in shipping aluminum across the Atlantic unless you desperately wanth the SAE dimensions.

Happy to report that Mark from 80/20's amazon/ebay department hooked me up and everything is on order! While I considered some of the alternatives suggested in this thread I actually saved money by having it shipped from the states. The prices are pretty close for the materials but anything bought in Germany gets 20% in taxes tacked on which easily made it more expensive than the shipping I paid. Anyway, Can't wait to receive it and start a build thread...should be interesting and a learning experience for sure. Stay tuned and thanks Mark for helping me out. I really appreciate it

There's probably lots of European suppliers of aluminum extrusion, Bosch (mentioned previously) is a good one. Also, item | Aluminium profiles, fasteners, t-slot nuts, linear guides, aluminium extrusions, would be comparable. They are metric only, but metric can be fairly compatible with the inch sizes...ie 40mm x 40mm is very close to 1.5" x 1.5" (actually 1.57" square).

Also, most company's pieces and accessories will interchange fairly well (except haven't had very good luck with Bosch on that aspect).

My impression is that alum extrusion may have originated in Europe. Would be pretty expensive to ship 18' lengths back across.
