I run a site called
www.qualifiedvendor.com. In response to the threads above, we are similar to mfgquote, but we restrict access to 5 suppliers. Mfgquote has cannibalized thier brand by overselling subscriptions to pools of RFQs. I get calls from past customers who told me they would routinely bid with 50-70 other suppliers. At that point it effectively becomes a reverse auction. Also, as a former mechanical design engineer, I never needed more than 5 quotes. Mfgquote has found a loyal following though with overseas suppliers who have little or no access to domestic RFQs, but they have all but destroyed their brand domestically. When you google them, the third or fourth link is from a supplier putting together a class action law suit. That's poor brand management.
QV intends to balance the equation between buyers and suppliers. Our value added to buyers comes in the form of RFQ management tools (under development) and to suppliers - buyer discovery either by pay-per-lead (3%) or performance-based six-month subscription (1%).
We're just getting started so RFQ volume is low, but it will pick up.
