On the topic of reducing spam, i use a program called
Mailwasher. It is an email checker, which doesn't download the emails to your pc like outlook express does (saving you from viruses), it will give you a list of emails, subject, etc, and if there are any you don't like the look of, you can "bounce" them away. An email is sent out saying basically, this email adress does not exist. Although most spam doesn't contain a real email adress, it works for some.
