I opted for the path of least possible failure and went with the new cable all the way to the card. I'm inside my machine replacing motor wiring anyway, so I've got all the covers off as it is.
There's an outfit on fleabay selling 15' cables for $11 shipped, so I went that route rather than trying to hunt one down locally (since everything uses DVI these days).
I'm not sure what problems you'd have by adapting it, but I think you'd still end up needing to cut a hole in the grill to fit the adapter. Might want to double check what you sacrifice with the 15>9 pin reduction. I think it's a bunch of grounds, but I don't know how that translates into the signal quality. |
