So I started today on my boards. I’m going to do Phil’s ss3977 boards and the 4-axis interface board. After starting to draw the copper so that I’ll have the component on the top and only the ss3977 on the copper side I realized that the copper drawing on his site is already that way. The photo on his site with the three boards and the interface board must be an older version but it confused me.

I did enhanced the drawing a bit in photo shop. I tried to get in my village here a high gloss paper but the local paper supply place had none. I went to the print shop near me to do the printing since he has a laser printer. I’ve asked him about the paper but he said he doesn’t have it but that he has a paper dedicated to ink-jets. We used it. The transfer worked fine. I’ve put it in water and after what I thought was a while I tried to peel it of. It didn’t come of readily. When I pulled a corner a layer came of. Unfortunately it took some of the outer ink lines too. It was to late to fix it so I decided to use it only as a test and learning piece. It was difficult to get the second layer off and I almost rubbed my thumb raw. I blamed the paper and figured that it was the wrong paper after all. After getting it all off between the lines and the copper was shiny, I dried it of and to my surprise saw the white residue that was mentioned in an other thread with a picture. I used the correct paper after all.

When I bought the copper board I’ve asked for the acid. I was told to get sulfuric acid and mix it 1 to 1 with hydrogen peroxide. I mixed it in a Pyrex and put it on the gas stove to heat up and after a few minutes checked the test piece and it was ready and perfect (except for the afore mentioned damage). It meant I could go ahead with the rest. If I only could figure out how to get the paper easier off.
