Bringing this thread back from the dead.
Sort of.
The 2nd X2 project is dead, it's being replaced with the new
Grizzly G0704 mill.
It's going to be back ordered for a while yet so I have time to get this new project rolling.
I'm making a Lathe/4th Axis/Trunnion from the remnants of my old 7x10 minilathe.
I'll be CNCing the lathe to use it standalone but also as a mill attachment for
extra fun.
I'm shaving 2 inches off of the lathe base to save weight and Z height.
The spindle for the lathe is 5C, I took the one from a
spin indexer and turned some threads on the end for 2 nuts.
The nuts came from
McMaster Carr and were nearly perfect, just needed to turn them a little thinner and remove the fiber locking crap.
The bearings are coming, 45mm x 75mm, so I still have to bore the head out to fit them.
I only found one place that sells a bearing with 45mm ID to fit the 5C spindle and 62mm OD to fit the stock head bores, $450 a pop

I'll do a little work and save $400.
more later.
